Dr. Lionel Wu

After completing his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours in 2005, Dr Lionel Wu has undergone specialist GP training in various hospitals and GP clinics throughout Melbourne before acquiring his Fellowship from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2009. During his training in General Practice, he has undertaken additional training in the field of Paediatric with Westmead's Children's Hospital at the Univresity of Sydney where he was awarded the Graduate Diploma in Child Health in 2007 and since then he has been practicing predominantly as a Paediatric GP in Melbourne in addition to his general practice work.
As part of his general practice work, Dr. Lionel Wu also conducts regular health assessment, employment medicals, pregnancies, contraceptive advice, mental health consultation and minor surgeries such as implanon insertion and removal and skin cancer assessment and surgeries.
Dr. Wu is also a senior examiner for the Royal Australian Colleges of General Practitioners.
Apart from English, Dr. Lionel Wu is fluent in Mandarin and Hokkien.

Dr. Maya Hartono

B. Med. Sc, MBBS (Melb Uni), FRACGP
Dr. Hartono graduated from Melbourne University in 2006. She spent few years of training with Monash Hospital before decided to do general practice. She enjoy caring for patients of all ages and background with a wide range of medical problems. She values continuity of care in her practice, getting to know patients and emphasize in preventative medicine. She is interested in all aspect of general medicine, children's health, women's health including pap smear, implanon insertion/removal, travel medicine and mental health. She spend most of her time with her two kids when not working. She speaks fluent English and Indonesian.

Dr. Josh Ng

B. Med. Sc, MBBS (Melb Uni), DCH, FRACGP
Josh graduated from Melbourne university in 2006 and has gained vast inner metropolitan and rural experience while undergoing GP training program in Victoria. He enjoys all aspect of General Practice and has particular interests in children’s health, sexual health, skin cancer and minor surgical procedures including implanon insertion and removal. He is also a certified prescriber of medical termination. Dr Ng hold qualification as designated Aviation-Medical examiner (DAME).
He speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.

Dr Joy Liao

Dr Joy Liao grew up in NZ, and completed her medical training in University of New South Wales, Australia. She is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners as well as the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. She has additional diploma in child health; post graduate certificate in mental health as well as certificate in family planning and sexual health. She has particular interest in mental health and women's health, including pap smear, family planning, implanon insertion/removal, and sexual health screen. She is a keen traveller in her spare time, and has backpacked in 30 different countries as well as volunteered in a refugee camp in Greece in the past.
She is fluent in Mandarin and English.

Eliza Chan (Qualified Acupuncturist and Chinese herbal medicine practitioner)

Bachelor of Applied Science (Chinese Medicine) and Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology) from RMIT University
Eliza Chan is a fully qualified Acupuncturist and Chinese herbal medicine practitioner, registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and is an accredited member of the following associations:
• Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA)
• The Federation of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Societies of Australia (FCMA)
Having previously worked in a corporate environment, she can relate to the stresses it can bring to our body. She believes that mental health, lifestyle (including diet) and environment can all contribute to our physical health. Taking a holistic approach, Eliza is a dedicated and gentle practitioner with experiences and special interests in pain management, autoimmune disease support, women’s health, emotional conditions such as stress, anxiety and insomnia, skin disorders, skin rejuvenation, weight loss and general wellbeing. Eliza graduated from the five-year Bachelor of Applied Science (Chinese Medicine) and Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology) from RMIT University with Distinction, complementing her knowledge from university with internships at the prestigious Jiangsu Provincial Chinese Medicine Hospital in Nanjing, China, and Tzu Chi Hospital in Taipei, where she saw a very wide range of conditions and learnt about different approaches to treatment. She has also completed Level 1 MAHA aromatherapy and taken specialist courses in Dr. Cheng’s acupuncture, facial acupuncture and Dr. Shou’s pulse taking method etc. She continues to go abroad to study from renowned experts during her break in order to provide better treatments for patients. She is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese.

Katia Overmars(Podiatrist)

We all know that sore feet can ruin a good mood. Yet so many people live with sore feet not realising that often the causes of the pain are easily treatable and maintained. Excellent foot care can offer you the freedom to walk through life confidently and pain free.
Podiatrist, Katia Overmars knew this when she began practicing Podiatry and has made it her goal to ensure that all patients are offered the knowledge and treatment options required to get them back on their feet for the long term.
So what do we do, exactly? Podiatry is a multi-faceted avenue that encompasses the anatomy and physiology of the feet and ankles, as well as the musculoskeletal systems pertaining to posture and gait. Other areas we can assist you with include: general skin and nail care, diabetic assessments, orthoses and sports injuries, dry needling, foot mobilisation therapy, children’s foot complaints as well as ingrown nails (nail bracing and surgery).

Atsuko Yamada BHSc(Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine)

She has been practicing as a clinical nutritionist after successfully completing her bachelor’s degree in health science (dietetic and nutritional medicine) with distinction in 2019. She takes a holistic approach in assessing her clients’ health status considering their environmental factors in addition to diet. Her passion is to help people achieve their best health by identifying the root cause of health issues and their specific barriers and providing individualised support. Previously a senior project manager in a busy corporate environment, and now a mother of two, she strives to develop realistic and achievable goals in collaboration with her clients.

As an avid researcher with interest in microbiome, her research on ‘probiotics’ effects on atopic dermatitis’ was selected for an oral presentation at NSA annual scientific meeting in Newcastle in 2019.

Having lived in Japan, Australia and China, she enjoys cross-cultural interaction. She is passionate about helping immigrants maintain health in a new environment, which has been shown to deteriorate post migration in various studies. She is a strong advocate for maintaining a traditional diet with modern or healthy twists. She has a strong commitment to the community. She volunteers at a food relief organisation ensuring vulnerable members of the society have access to healthy food. A strong believer in preventative medicine, she became a member of PHAA in 2020. Since then she has contributed to submissions to state and federal government on public health issues. A proportion of the profit from her nutritional consultation goes to the food relief organisation.

She enjoys cooking using freshly picked herbs and vegies from her garden and trying new food. Areas of interest: gastrointestinal complaints, weight management (including body fat monitoring using BIA), assessment of nutritional intake for child and adult, culturally tailored dietary prevention of lifestyle diseases e.g. type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis.

Hayley Yung, Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD)

Master of Dietetics (MDiet), Bachelor of Food and Nutrition Sciences Majoring in Food Science (BFood&NutrSc)
Hayley is a highly motivated Accredited Practising Dietitian with experience in areas including chronic disease management, malnutrition, aged care and rehabilitation. Hayley believes that prevention is better than cure. She is dedicated to providing evidence-based nutrition advice and personalised nutrition education to empower clients in managing their health independently using client-centred counselling and care.

Coming from a culturally and linguistically diverse background, Hayley is passionate about exploring different cultural foods in her spare time. She loves eating and cooking. Grocery shopping is her fun activity to explore new products on the shelves and look for healthier alternatives.

Hayley completed the Monash FODMAP Training Course for Dietitians in 2020 and is a member of Dietitians Australia.

Hayley is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Nao Davidson (Qualified Clinical Psychologist)

Nao has a Master of Psychology degree from Monash University and has extensive experience working with children as well as adults for over 10 years both in Japan and Australia. Nao has worked with children, adolescents and parents in dealing with a range of issues including cultural adjustment, anxiety, depression, stress management, peer and family relations, behaviour problems, and parenting and pregnancy related issues. She is also experienced in administrating and interpreting psycho-educational assessments. Nao is passionate about helping people develop life skills so that they can achieve their potential.

Miyuki Mase (Practice Manager)

B.S. (Melb)
Miyuki was originally trained as an Engineering scientist with a Japanese International Company based in Sydney. She joined the practice in 2014 and with her experience in planning and practice management skills she was solely responsible in the setup of the Clinic. We were fortunate to have her on board with us at Medifirst Family Clinic. She oversees the running of the clinic and if there are any concerns arising from the consultation, she will be the best person to contact.

Mari Kunikane (Practice Nurse)

B.Nursing, BH(HlthPromEd). (Australian Catholic University)

Mari commenced her nursing career at the Tokyo Medical University Hospital in Shinjuku, Japan, specialising in the care of burns patients. On arrival in Australia Mari completed her Bachelor of Nursing at Australian Catholic University, enabling the continuation of her career as a Registered Nurse (Div. 1) at St Vincent’s Private, Western Health, and The Valley Private Hospital. Across these three hospitals Mari has gained experience in the care of orthopaedics, neurology, urology, ENT, and gastroenterology patients. Mari speaks both English and Japanese.


Megumi Shimo (Practice Nurse)

B.Nursing, College of Nursing Art and Science, University of Hyogo

Megumi’s nursing career started at Toranomon Hospital in Tokyo, Japan. After achieving Division 1 nurse registration at Deakin University in Victoria, Megumi went on to practice at St.Vincent’s Hospital and the Valley Private Hospital. Viewing Melbourne as one of the most harmonious and culturally diverse cities, Megumi enjoys communicating with people from a variety of cultures. Megumi speaks Japanese and English fluently, and is currently learning Mandarin.


Josephine Ly (Receptionist)

Josephine is a recent University of Melbourne graduate with extensive experience in research and volunteering. She completed her thesis at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and graduated with First Class Honours. She prides herself in her friendliness and cultural sensitivity. She is fluent in English and Vietnamese.

Susan Ng (Receptionist)

Diploma of Children's services
Susan is an experienced receptionist with over 20 years experience in customer service. Susan strives to provide patients the best customer service possible and enjoys communicating with people of all backgrounds. She speaks fluent Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien, Hakka and Malay.

Cynthia (Receptionist)

Cynthia has had medical training in China, she previously worked in pharmacy for many years before joining the Medifirst family clinic. She loves to help people from different cultural backgrounds. She also speaks fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Stacy (Receptionist)

Stacy has many years experience working as a receptionist in Taiwan and Australia. Her years in customer service industry also developed her communication skills and love to help those in need. Adhearing to a service oriented philosohy she has joined the Medifirst team to help people with their medical requirments. Stacy speaks fluent English, Manadrin and Hokkien.
